How to get to the city of Iquitos?

The traditional way to reach Iquitos is by air. Alternatively, you can travel by boat along the Amazon River and its main tributaries such as the Ucayali River and the Marañón River.

The city of Iquitos is not connected by roads to other major cities in Peru; there is only a 115 km road from Iquitos to Nauta. Cars only circulate in the urban area and outskirts of Iquitos; the predominant mode of transportation is by river.

The most common means of transportation in the city are motorcycles and motokars, with public buses and conventional taxis also available. Transportation to nearby towns and within the Loreto department is done by riverboats.

By air, flights are operated by airlines such as Latam Peru, Sky Airlines, JetSmart, and Star Peru.

The city of Iquitos has the "Coronel FAP Francisco Secada" International Airport, with new and comfortable facilities, located 6 km from the city center.

This airport receives regular domestic flights from Lima (1 hour and 25 minutes), Tarapoto (55 minutes), and Pucallpa (1 hour and 15 minutes). There are sporadic flights to Iquitos from Yurimaguas (40 minutes) and Leticia, Colombia (1 hour).

By River

Many tourists who want to experience navigating through its mighty rivers start their journey from the port of Iquitos along the Amazon River and can reach ports in Brazil and its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean, reaching ports like Manaus and Tabatinga in Brazil and Leticia in Colombia. Regular motorboats depart from the port of Iquitos to Pucallpa and Yurimaguas.

Navigation from Pucallpa to Iquitos can take 4 to 6 days along the Ucayali River, with stops in Requena and Contamana if you choose to travel by 'motonave,' a boat with capacity for 250 people, and from Iquitos to Yurimaguas 3 to 4 days. The main rivers used are the Amazon, Marañón, and Ucayali.

Time

In the Peruvian Amazon Jungle, our climate is tropical like anywhere else in the world. It is warm and humid every day of the year. While you may find in many books, magazines, and on the internet that the rainy season is in the months of December, March, and the first half of April, in reality, the rains are constant throughout the year. Rainfall can occur for hours or minutes, which for us is not an impediment to continue exploring the jungle.

In May, June, and July, the Amazon River's water volume increases, filling much of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Our lodge is designed to withstand these times without affecting the stay of our tourists and excursions.

In July, August, and September, the Ucayali and Amazon rivers lose much of their water, providing us with the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful beaches that our Amazon jungle offers.

You can visit us and explore at any time of the year. Both seasons are very interesting and good, during which we conduct many activities during the day and night, and animal sightings are guaranteed, rain or shine.

Flora and Fauna

Ecological Jungle Trips & Expeditions tours is located in an area where the observation of abundant biodiversity is guaranteed 100%, as the animals we can observe are in their natural habitat. In our lodge, we do not have any animals in cages or birds in corridors.

In our office, we will provide you with a booklet where you can see a list of animals that are frequently seen during excursions.

Being in the heart of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve makes your experience of exploring and participating in tour activities much more exciting. A small list of animals that we frequently encounter at Ecological Jungle Trips, besides our variety of birds, monkeys, ants, etc.
